RED EYE

We've all experienced red, bloodshot eyes from time to time, affecting one or both eyes.

"Red eye" is a general term used to describe red, irritated and bloodshot eyes.

 It  is caused by swollen or dilated blood vessels on the sclera, the white outer surface of the eye.

Red eyes can be accompanied by eye pain, itching, eye discharge , swollen eyes or visual disturbances such as blurry vision In other cases, a red eye may cause no irritation at all.

Bloodshot eyes can develop over time or appear suddenly, particularly in response to allergies or an eye injury.

Red eyes occur when the blood vessels on the surface of the eye expand.

The appearance of red eye ranges in severity from a bright red that completely covers the sclera to a few enlarged blood vessels that look like wiggly red or pink lines across the "white" of the eye.

Red eyes usually are caused by allergy, eye fatigue, over-wearing contact lenses or common eye infections such as pink eye (conjunctivitis).

However, redness of the eye sometimes can signal a more serious eye condition or disease, such as glaucoma .If your red eye persists or worsens, always contact your eye Doctor for  proper diagnosis and treatment.

Red eye is caused by Conjunctivitis. Also called "pink eye" conjunctivitis is one of the most common (and contagious) eye infections.

It occurs when the conjunctiva — the thin, normally transparent membrane that covers the sclera and lines the eyelids — becomes infected.

When the conjunctiva is infected, the blood vessels within it become irritated and swell, giving the eye a red or pink appearance. In fact, a reddish-pink eye is a telltale symptom of conjunctivitis.

There are different types of conjunctivitis — and therefore different ways to treat pink eye — so be sure to always visit your eye doctor for correct diagnosis.

As a way of improving nature, Bamburi Cement made a Haller park as an avenue to revive the waste land. 

Haller is a nature park in Bamburi -Mombasa, on the Kenyan Coast. It is the transformation of a quarry wasteland into an ecological paradise.

The reason why it was created  was because  over the years cement production grew to 1.2 million tons per 25 million tons. The area soon became inhospitable arid wasteland with brackish water. The Bamburi Cement  company decided to rehabilitate the quarries which seemed to be an inconceivable task. 

No plants had been able to establish themselves in the quarries. In 1959, Dr. Rene Haller was hired as manager of the garden department and given the task to beautify the area. In the 1970s Rene embarked on the reforestation project and later also introduction of wild animals in the park.

 Haller Park now holds a variety of plant and animal species which serve as a recreation hot spot to tourists and locals.

HISTORY OF MOMBASA

Mombasa, also known as coastal region or Pwani is the second largest city in Kenya located in Kenya’s Eastern coastline bordering the Indian.

The history of the city is a mixture African Persian Arab, Portuguese and British influences which contributed to the rich cultures found in the city today.

Mombasa is the greatest trading center with several items such as glasses ,brass, copper, and rhino horn passing through the coast was originally inhabited by the Africans Bantu people.

The main language spoken within Mombasa is Swahili as the mother tongue as it reflects the mixed origin and complex history of the Swahili people.

Most of the residence believes in myths and heroes based on Islamic sources, being a Swahili is excitable connected to being a Muslim.

Swahili Muslim recognized the five pillars of faith that are basic to Islamic practice worldwide;

   1. Believe in Allah as the Supreme Being.

   2. Praying five times a day.

   3. Fasting from dawn to dusk during the moth of Ramadhan.

   4. Giving charity.

   5. Making a pilgrimage hajj to the city of Mecca.

 Mombasa was thriving sophisticated city with established trade routes to china by the 15^th century and Persia. A round this time the Portuguese explorer Vasco Dagama discovered the city while on voyage around Africa to find a sea route to India.

 After less than five years the Portuguese returned to attack the city. Five years later Almeda another Portuguese seafarer plundered the port and 23 years later they mounted another raid.

 The invaders then occupied Mombasa building the impressive Fort Jesus and dominated the entrance to the old harbor between 1593 and 1598.

By the late 1800 Mombasa became the base of exploration for British to Kenyan interior. In 1988 the Imperial British East African Company set up headquarters in Mombasa. British rule became official in 1895 when they leased a stretch of the coastal including the port city from the sultan of Zanzibar.

The British affirmed Mombasa’s importance as East Africa’s most vital port when they completed a railway in 1901 stretching from Mombasa to Uganda. Today the city remains one Africa’s major links to the rest of the world.

My favorite way of applying henna is with a hand rolled.

            Henna (what to expect)

Henna can be painted almost anywhere on the body and is applied directly onto clean sanitized skin where the paste harden as it dries.

Be prepared to leave  the design on for as long as possible to ensure maximum colour.

 Henna leaving paste on at least  3 hours.Leave on overnight for the best result when completely dry simply off the paste and try not wash the design for at least 3 hours to ensure maximum colour

Once the paste is scrapped away, the stain at first will appear an illuminous arranged colour but will darken to a deep reddish brown stain over 48 hours.

DEADLY FUN

Four boys were swimming  under Nyali Bridge in Mombasa  yesterday at around 4pm.
The boys who were swimming while making noise for the people who were passing
along the the bridge  attracted a lot of attention from many people who were heading home from their work places .

Free sanitary towels to keep girls in school

Over 500 school girls in Kwale County have benefited from a full year sponsorship of sanitary towel from Kwale Welfare

Education Association (KWEA) a community based organization and One Heart in Time organization.

The program was officially launched in this month of November at Golini primary School in Kwale and targeting class seven girls expected to sit for their KCPE exams next year. The girls according to chairman of

the organization (KWEA) Mohamed Mwachausa said that they got full year sponsorship of the sanitary towels as a way of improving girl child education in the county.

He said most of the time many girls fail in their exams because a lot of time is wasted at home during their menstruation

period due to lack of sanitary towels. “Those girls expected to be in class eight next year are our target and we want to ensure they don’t miss classes at all and therefore everyone will have full sanitary towels for the whole year until they are done with their final exam,’ said Mwachausa. Speaking at Golini primary school when they officially launched the exercise Mwachausa said that they will use

all means to uplift the education standards of girl child and boys in the area. Primary Schools that benefited

from the sponsorship program of sanitary towels are Golini, Mwache, MenzMwenye, Milalani and Muhaka

among others.

 “We want to get in the map of Kenya on education and now we have started the journey. Poverty is not a reason for someone to fail in education and therefore we encourage all children to take seriously their studies,’ he said. He said they also sponsor three

mock exams for class eight candidates in each term to prepare them to sit for their examination without panic. Mwachausa said that they target to

sponsor all class eight candidates in the region once they get more well wishers to assist them.

who during the event lauded the organization for coming in to assist them expressing confidence that the sponsorship

will help them stay in school all the time even during their periods. “It is true we waste a lot of time at home because we feel embarrassed during that period but since now sanitary towels are here for us we promise good results next year because our time will be fully dedicated to studies,” she said.

Mwanakombo narrated that the organization has helped in curbing the situation of early pregnancies among the school girls as many of them are forced to enter in a relationship with men who will buy them sanitary towel and soaps as many of them are too shy to ask from their parents and also some of the parents are not able to afford due to poverty.

“Most of my fellow girls are too shy to ask their parents especially their father for sanitary towel so most of the time they don’t attend classes and this force most of the girls to enter in relationship with old men who will give them support by buying sanitary towel and soaps,” said Mwanakombo.Governor Salim Mvurya and his deputy Fatuma Achani who attended the function assured residents of their commitment in ensuring education standards are moved to another level in the area.

“Parents play your part as well as children and we are playing ours, bursaries are there no any child should remainhome because there is no money,” said Achani.

Governor Mvurya said that the time has come for Kwale to perform well and there is no any other option apart from improving education performance. “Our children are not in school for experiment purpose they are there to perform well and therefore everyone should work hard towards improving our grades,” he said.

Kwale county director of education Juma Mwatenga urged parents to encourage their children to aim higher and especially go to university level.“Without having university studies there is nowhere we will be moving to

and so let us work together and help our children,” he said

5) Maintain Muscle

Don’t lose muscle tone during pregnancy. A regular exercise program will maintain muscle tone which in turn increases your metabolism needed to use fat as fuel

6) Exercise wear

If you exercise wear looks and feel great. Treat yourself to a new workout fit.

7) Posture

Stand up straight. Rounded shoulder and a forward head posture can reduce the room baby has to grow and more making your bump appear much bigger.

The police has  always not been at the road blocks at times especially when is very hot

or when its raining and it would be easy for the bad guys to pass unnoticed.The shelter is a donation from the Reliance company Limited towards  Kenya Police.

Mau Forest on fire

Kericho County Commissioner Lucy Mulili was yesterday shocked at the massive destruction of the “virgin forest”.

Ms Mulili, who was on a fact-finding mission, said some fires were started by illicit brewers who were unhappy with government efforts to stamp out their business in the forest.

The commissioner, who was with the county security team and Ecosystem Conservator Thomas Kiptoo, said police had destroyed 3,900 litres of chang’aa and arrested 57 people.

She praised the Kenya Forest Service and Londiani Forest Association for fighting the fires.
Mr Kiptoo said forest rangers from Baringo, Nakuru and Nairobi helped to put out the fires, which have been eating up huge swathes of the South Western Mau Forest complex for more than 20 days.

Hundreds of volunteers swarmed the forest with water buckets and twigs to assist the forest rangers.

The ODM secretary general said he is innocent and determined to soldier on. He also said the case was thrown due to lack of evidence.

 to be breaching Islamic laws. 

Buibuis or abayas are the common type of clothe worn by women. They also wear kanga commonly known as lessos in Swahili.

The Muslims believes that when a woman goes out without a buibui she is showing her nakedness which is considered as breaking Islamic laws.

Most muslim men preffer wearing white kanzus.

           

Muslim men also wore kanzus and kikois.they also wore Islamic caps designed specifically for muslims.

During wedding ceremonies women always wear a green or yellow veil and hijab while men simply put on their kanzus.

    A WOMAN CORPSE FOUND LYING AROUND KISAUNI,                                 BAKARANI  AREA

  

The body of  an unknown woman found at Kisauni.

Faces of Bakarani residence were filled with sadness after witnessing a corpse of woman lying around Namba Saba area in Bakarani yesterday dawn.

The residence confirmed knowing the woman for she has been a resident in Bakarani for more than five years and also a mother of a 3 year old daughter.

The cause of her death and the motives are still unclear after police report revealing that the woman was strangled to death.

‘A lot of crimes have been taking place within Kisauni and we are here promising you that we won’t rest until all criminals are brought to book’, said the police officer.

The body was taken to the coast general mortuary as the police carries on with investigation concerning her death. The police are appealing to her family members to go ahead with the burial program.
